The Awakening

The Awakening - Women and Power in the Academy was published by The Chronicle Review and catalogs, with unvarnished detail, the experiences of women in academia. The theme of these stories is power, and women in many different roles in academia share how they have encountered, obtained, relinquished, and desired power. What I found most intriguing about these stories are the very unique perceptions and interpretations these women have of power. An implicit theme running through these stories may be of perseverance, as women persist through situations where they are inhibited by those with more power or have power placed on them that is unwelcome. These stories are a testament to the strength of women and the strength in their differences.
